Overlanding Mexico II

36 hours later…

my eyes are shut but i am awake and finally feeling better after two days on the bathroom floor, sweat running down my face with altitude sickness and food poisoning.

i knew i would get sick but i didn’t realize it would happen this fast or be this bad! after a night’s stay at a hotel in toluca i was feeling better but still not 100% and i was bummed. not because i was sick but because we missed shooting sunrise at one of the coolest volcanoes in the world.

i’d been dreaming about this for a long time and couldn’t skip it and move on, even though we lost a few of days. i convinced helby we should give it another try and he agreed. we decided to give it one more go and stick to the saying "sleep low and hike high". and also, stay away from mexican street food. i crossed my fingers,  holding in the urge to puke again, and we went on our way.

the next morning, we woke up extra early for the long drive back to the trailhead. once we made it up the long, windy road we put on our kuhl layers and started hiking. And reached nevado de toluca just in time for sunrise, sweating and panting our way to the top.

we stood 15000ft above sea level. i looked over at helby wearing (insert hiking pants and shirt name here), and asked him what he thought of his layers. he said “ i can’t believe how breathable and flexible the pants are. the pockets are nice and conventional, and they are the best options for hiking and adventures like this.'' i wore my weekendr tights and sona ss tee while watching the alpenglow reflect itself over two small pools in the center of the volcano. amazing, i thought to myself as we sat in awe, still panting from the hard climb.
