Day 3 | Hurts So Good

Day 3 | Hurts So Good

The struggle is real.

I cried today...first it was tears of joy realizing I am in the most pristine place I've ever been...then it was tears realizing I had another 4 miles to go when I had already gone 19.

Day 2 - 27 miles, 67 overall.

I went into Winthrop to grab a burger and fries after the two days, and let me tell you, that was the best burger of my life!

The people on the trail and those I met in town are probably the nicest people ever. Everyone is so helpful and just wants to make sure we all make it through the dangerous snow packed trail and passes o.k.

Yes, there's a lot of snow, and it is slow. I hiked up and down Rock Pass which is probably the worst I've been through. I prayed a lot before going into it knowing how uncomfortable I was climbing on snow. Being from Montana helps, as I am familiar with the snow, just not steep, treeless slopes right beside the trail.

I met a couple of guys struggling. One fell down the snow chute about 20 feet and screwed up his shoulder really bad. So lucky we met him in time. He is a VERY strong hiker, having through-hiked the AT (Appalachian Trail). The snow is no joke and should be taken VERY SERIOUSLY! We were already on our way back to Hart's Pass, so we helped him hike back and then gave him a ride to the hospital in Winthrop. My dad is hiking with me for the first four days, so we had a vehicle parked at Hart's Pass. This is how I ended up in Winthrop with the best burger ever!!!

Shoes are holding up nicely even though my feet are swollen and the blisters are pretty bad. I know this is just part of the experience.

That's all for now.

Cheers!
